Native. Generally distributed throughout the British Isles and locally common, although scarce in northern Scotland. Grassy places, verges, banks etc.

T. alatum is a characteristic member of the Alata group with green petioles with parallel wings and quite heavy sigmoid exterior bracts which are pruinose above and are often pink-tipped. It has the narrowest oblanceolate leaves in this group, the petiole taking almost half of the leaf.

