Native. Generally distributed throughout the British Isles, but less common than formerly, especially in the Midlands and South-east. Ruderal habitats, gardens, waste land, lane banks.
T. polyodon has irregularly and narrowly winged petioles which are green on outers and reddish on inners. Leaf lobes are dentate throughout with large teeth, edged or smudged blackish at interlobes, although this pigment may disappear. The leaves are noticeably heterophyllous, the end lobes small and triangular on outers, large and jagged dentate on inners. The bracts are small, hooked, and faintly tinged violet.
