Rubus Weekend, Norfolk

East Norfolk 4th – 6th July 2025
training specialised
led by
Alex Prendergast
We will base ourselves in central Norwich for ease of public transport and choice of accommodation. We will aim to see most of East Norfolk’s best bramble spots and the Rubus species that live here. We’ll also revisit some of the locations visited on the last Rubus weekend in Norfolk in 2006 to see what has changed. We should see around 60 Rubus species over the course of the weekend along with some other special Norfolk plants and butterflies.
Friday 4 July: Meet in Norwich from 10am for a herbarium session (feel free to bring specimens). A beginner’s introductory session will be provided if required. From midday we’ll explore Mousehold Heath, one of Norfolk’s premier bramble spots on the edge of the city centre before returning for more herbarium/fresh samples and a group meal.
Saturday 5 July: We’ll meet in Norwich and share cars to visit several bramble-rich heaths, fens, lanes and woods from Broadland to North Norfolk and back to Norwich - a long and full day.
Sunday 6 July: Another full day of bramble-rich locations near Norwich finishing at a brewery beer garden to discuss specimens. Feel free to depart when necessary.
