2024 County Report for Co. Waterford

Waterford County (H6) vice-recorders held a field meeting to Tramore Dunes 12 May 2024.  Exciting finds were Vicia Lathyroides (Spring Vetch), several plants of which were located by Dr. Una Fitzpatrick.  We also saw Ophrys Apifera (Bee Orchids) and a new site for Asparagus Prostratus (Wild Asparagus) was a pleasant surprise.

 

Having gathered an informal local group of plant enthusiasts, we held several outings over the  summer as follows: Ramp Boreen Tallow 8 June 2024, Carey's Castle Clonmel 7 July 2024, Raheen Quay Walk Clashmore 18 August 2024, Baile na nGall Helvick 1 September 2024 when we attempted (but unfortunately failed) to re-find Spiranthes Spiralis (Autumn Lady's-tresses). Further trips for this group are planned for 2025 via a recently set up WhatsApp group.

 

On 22 September 2024 we recorded aquatics and lakeside plants at Ballyshunnock Lake and  among other finds we had Myriophyllum Spicatum  (Spiked Water-Milfoil), Potamogeton Perfoliatus (Perfoliate Pondweed), Litorella Uniflora (Shoreweed) and Callitriche Brutia.  

 

2024 saw us add 2,669 records to the DDb for H6 County Waterford.
