2024 County Report for Tyrone

The following interesting finds were recorded in Tyrone during 2024:

Crepis biennis (Rough Hawk’s-beard)

Found Jun 2024 at Old Chapel Road, 1.5km NW of Aughnacloy. Rec I.McNeill and J.S. Faulkner. 1st time IMcN has seen this in Tyrone. Handful of records pre-1970. Since 1970 just two records – this one in 2024 and a 2004 record from near Dungannon (Steven Shepherd).

Bromus diandrus (Great Brome)

Found on same day and same place as above. 2nd Tyrone record. Previous record from Favour Royal, 6km W of Aughnacloy (IMcN and Andrew McNeill) 2015.

Luzula luzuloides (White Wood-rush)

Found by IMcN in Dungannon in an abandoned garden Nov 2024. I acknowledge the help of Ian Bennallick (Cornwall) for pointing me in the right direction as to id.1st Tyrone record. Status – introduced garden relic.

Salix daphnoides (European Violet-willow)

Found by IMcN along former railway track, 3km SW of Dromore. Ident Dave Riley (VCR Co Derry). 2nd Tyrone record. Previous record from along Owenreagh R, nr Cashel Bridge, 16 km NW of Omagh (Dave Riley) 2014.
