BSBI Annual Report 2024 VC50 Denbighshire
About 5,500 records were taken from a variety of sources: there were 16 Denbighshire Group meetings whose main thrust was to look at un-recorded monads and to check out older, rarer records. Two wildlife-friendly farm visits were very successful, yielding lots of interesting records on private land that normally is not accessible.
We checked out one of the only two sites in Wales for Gagea lutea Yellow Star-of-Bethlehem, flourishing on private land. The VCR joined three meetings of the Welsh-medium Cymdeithas Edward Llwyd Society as well as leading the NYPH with them at the beginning of the year. The VCR also carried out a follow-up of a survey of the local churchyard and spent some time liaising with, advising and recording for the local Wildlife Trust on a new reserve nearby.
Time has been spent on verifying records for Cofnod, the LERC as well as contributing to their annual conference. Quite a bit of time has been spemt on inputting records from contributors as well as preparing for the Welsh AGM in 2025. Not much time left for the writing of the flora so progress is slow!
Only 10 records new to the VC, with the exception of two all neophytes or subspecies but Poa infirma Early Meadow-grass and Ophioglossum azoricum Small Adder’s-tongue are good finds. There were 94 new hectad records.
